“Scouting’s Journey to Excellence” is the BSA’s new council performance recognition program designed to encourage and reward success and measure the performance of our units, districts, and councils. It is replacing the Centennial Quality Awards Program as a means of encouraging excellence in providing a quality program at all levels of the BSA.

The Journey to Excellence program is available at all levels of Scouting, from the Pack to the Council. Complete information on the program is available on the Capital Area Council website or by clicking here.

Scouting Matters…

Boys that are in Scouting for 5 years (even non-consecutive years) have a high school graduation rate of 91% vs. a rate of 65% for the general population.

In our 15-county Capitol Area Council, which serves approx. 21000 Scouts, about 1/3 are considered “at-risk”.

In Bastrop, Hays, Travis and Williamson counties, 21% of households are single mothers with children under age 18.

An African proverb says: "It takes a village to raise a child."   Scouting can be the village!

In the past year, the Capitol Area Council has:

Trained nearly 2,000 new leaders.
Commissioned more than 300 Eagle Scouts.
Donated more than 64,800 hours of community service.
Collected more than 83,000 lbs of food for local food pantries.
Served more than 6,000 at risk youth.
Given rank advancements to more than 10,00 boys.
Enrolled nearly 3,000 new Cub Scouts.
Enrolled more than 2,000 Cub Scouts and families in the Cub Scout Outdoor Program.
Hosted more than 1,200 campers at Cub World.
